Christian Hip Hop Artist Hulvey Produces Conceptual Music To Show How God Empowers Us
Gaelika Brown
In this episode, I interview Hulvey who shares his Christian testimony.
Battle rapping was his hobby in middle school and high school and he became good at it.
His musical journey included entering talent shows in high school, writing songs, creating his own music, and releasing it on Soundcloud.
“It’s easy to talk about God, but it’s another thing to know God and know him personally. “
Honestly, Hulvey did not have a time frame when he gave himself to God but he came to know God in his heart around high school and college.
Doug Pierce, Hulvey’s mentor, was a big influence in helping him develop his relationship with God and be a disciple of Jesus.
While in college putting out secular music and doing well, Hulvey tells us about a moment where God called on him to drop everything he was doing.
He deleted all of the music he created. God gave him a new focus and his music gradually evolved towards Christian hip hop music.
Hulvey talks about how God told him to drop out of college and continue to pursue music.
Hulvey then moved to Atlanta, and less than a year later he was signed to Lecrae’s Reach Records. He also discusses the importance of mentorship and wisdom.
Additionally, Hulvey breaks down “Back in the wick”, "Reason" featuring Lecrae & SVRCINA, "We Against the World" featuring Andy Mineo, and "Eternal" in the 4-Song-Breakdown, from his debut album Christopher.
